Hi Lovely Friend!!
Thanks for visiting!! I thought I would share some about myself and the site.
The start of GirlMakesFood
I work a crazy job. Most days I don’t get a lunch break and am stuck working late. When I get home, I often just want to sit down and relax. As much as I love cooking and eating healthy food, I also have a lazy streak, especially after a long day. So I started coming up with recipes that were healthy but not too complicated and didn’t take too long.
One night, my wonderful hubby suggested I make a website to share my recipes. I perked up. What a good idea!! I love to cook, and am constantly telling family and friends the things I read and learn about health and nutrition. Why not put it out there in case other busy people can benefit from the recipes!!
The site has grown since I first started it, and I have all of you to thank!! I really love blogging, and am so, so grateful for you guys for supporting me and what I share here by coming to the site!!
I have been super excited to have been featured on other sites around the web. For a list of some of the places I have been featured, you can check out this press page
My Personal Journey with Nutrition
I struggled with my weight in high school. (I will dig out some pictures for you soon as evidence) I tried lots of different diets, most of which worked, but all of which were not sustainable.
When I went off to college, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be losing any weight since my major was in Baking and Pastry (it was culinary school). Surprisingly, I did lose weight. I was quite busy with school, work, and partying (yep, I said it). I found my co-workers at the bakery were really into healthy eating, and I discovered I was too. It’s a little ironic that I found that I loved nutrition while working as a pastry chef. But life works in funny ways.
When I graduated I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do for my continuing education. I was interested in food and nutrition, but didn’t want to go for my RD. I took a lot of different classes, including a lot on food processing and nutrition. I started getting really interested in holistic nutrition, and decided that was what I wanted to pursue.
A lot of different things clicked at the same time, and as if it was meant to be, I was enrolled and working towards my certification in holistic nutrition counseling. I was certified a little over a year ago, and I am really glad I took the path I did. I feel better than I ever have in my life!!
If you are interested in the school where I studied holistic nutrition, I had an amazing experience there and highly recommend it. You can click the picture below if you are interested in checking it out, and are always free to contact me with any questions!! (As an alumni I get special discounts to offer if you are looking to enroll, so definitely let me know!!)
A little about this girl
I love to read – I will abashedly tell you that I read mostly young adult fiction, and love it. In my brain I am a teenager, so I relate to the teen books. I specifically love ones that involve werewolves, vampires, fairies, and other mythological creatures. I recently joined GoodReads, if you are on there too let’s be friends!!
I am obsessed with Disney. Some people think it’s too commercial, or that it’s unsophisticated. I find it magical, I can be my kidish self there and I love it. I also might watch the Disney channel…
I love to dance. I might not be very good at it, but that doesn’t stop me!! You can often find me dancing around in the kitchen after work. Usually with headphones on. I am sure I look totally normal. I also love dance games. I seriously work up a sweat
thrashing dancing around my living room!!
So that’s me in a nutshell!! Thank you for stopping by the site!! I feel so lucky to have the most amazing readers/friends here on the blog. I loooove hearing from you guys, it brightens my day when I get comments so feel free to bombard me with them!!
