With fall in the air and kids going back to school, it’s starting to be the season for the sniffles.  And while being about being able to call out from work is one of life’s many pleasures, I prefer to save it for the times when I feel like playing hooky (which is good for your soul) and not because I am actually sick.

After hearing a few sneezes from friends I was hanging with, I am trying to be proactive.  And when boosting your immune system involves delicious smoothies, you won’t find me complaining about it.  This smoothie is my friend in the colder months, when it seems like colds go around frequently, or I just like excuses to drink it.

I didn’t add spinach to this one pictured, but I often do because you can’t taste it and it adds some extra nutrients.  Spinach did give popeye some pretty sweet perks, it would rock to be super strong for a few hours!!

Immunity boosting ingredients:  Did you know that 70% of your immune system is in your digestive tract?  Supporting a healthy gut is quite important to overall health.  Probiotics, as found in the yogurt in this recipe, help support a healthy digestive tract by providing it with the good bacteria that help aid in digestion, and fight bad bacteria that can make you sick.  Studies on probiotics show promise in their ability to fight off colds.  Bananas help to strengthen the stomach lining, and contain potassium, which is essential for the digestive system.  Vitamin C, which is found in the pineapple and oranges, supports immune function and has been shown to help prevent colds.
