Tummy Tonic (vegan) 2

As humans, we all have tummy troubles from time to time.  (All you non humans would enjoy this recipe too, but just for yummy reasons, because clearly you are an alien.. I mean, do you even have a stomach?)

There are a few foods that can really help when you are having digestive upset: bananas, oats, and ginger are 3 of the great ones.  So making a healthy drink using these ingredients was a reasonable next step for me.  Now there’s no need to consume all the sugar in cola or ginger ale, and no one wants to stand over the sink with 2 cups swishing soda back and forth to flatten it.  (I hope some of you had the same experience and get the reference. That was the only time I remember having soda at home as a kid, was when I was sick and my mom would flatten the soda for me)

The end result ended up tasting delicious, and a little bit like eggnog.  In a delicious comforty way.

How bananas, oats and ginger help your stomach when it is upset:  Bananas contain potassium, which is an electrolyte that can be depleted if you are having a sick stomach.  They also contain fiber and pectin that can help bind things up.  Ginger calms the stomach and reduces naseua.  Oats are easy to digest, are a prebiotic food (which means it helps feed the good bacteria) and contain fiber.  Chamomile tea has also been shown to help relieve stomach upset and pain.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups Chamomile Tea (cooled)
  • 1 Banana (frozen)
  • ¼ cup plain Rolled Oats (quick cooking oats are ok, avoid the instant oats)
  • ¼ teaspoon Fresh Grated Ginger (about ½ inch piece)
  • ¼ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Ice
Instructions
  1. In a blender, add all the ingredients
  2. Blend until smooth
  3. Add additional ice if needed to thicken or cool down
