Nothing beats the sweet delicious flavor of fresh, real strawberries.

Except maybe when those strawberries are paired with some chocolate.

Some chopped fresh strawberries covered in molten chocolate sauce?  Might be the stuff heaven is made of.  I also recently discovered that watermelon and chocolate is a seriously delicious and underrated combination.  So some watermelon sorbet and this here hot fudge could be just the perfect thing after a long day.

Or you can drizzle this on waffles (like I did over the weekend).

But I feel like you really don’t need my suggestions on what to do with hot fudge.  If you are a fellow chocolate lover you will know chocolate is good on almost anything.

In fact, a few years ago my grandfather made some chocolate covered strawberries for Mother’s day.  He dipped all the strawberries he had, but still had some extra chocolate, so he rummaged in his fridge for what else he might have that he could dip.  He found some broccoli, and decided since I love both chocolate and vegetables that chocolate covered broccoli might be right up my alley.  It totally wasn’t as weird as I expected, and ate a whole bunch of them!!  I would eat chocolate covered broccoli again gladly, any day!!

Health highlight of chocolate: Being a clear chocoholic myself, I love reading the studies about how healthy chocolate is for you. 70% cocoa solids or higher is best, as it means less sugar and other non-chocolate additives in there (the percentage refers to the cocoa solids meaning the stuff that comes from the bean – 100% is unsweetened chocolate). Research suggests that people who eat chocolate regularly tend to have a lower BMI. Chocolate can help lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease. It also contains healthy antioxidants and flavonoids, and has been shown to have a beneficial effect on cholesterol.

Vegan Hot Fudge

Ingredients
  • 4 oz Unsweetened Chocolate – chopped
  • 1 cup Almond Milk (or any non-dairy milk you like – unsweetened)
  • 5 Medjool Dates (remove the pit)
Instructions
  1. In a small, microwave safe bowl, add all ingredients
  2. Microwave for 1 minute
  3. Remove from microwave and carefully dump the content into a blender
  4. Blend until smooth
  5. Serve!! (Be careful because its still probably pretty hot!)
