Vegan Mocha Frappachino (1)

Today is National Donut Day.  I was late to discovering this fun fact, or I would have baked up some lovely donuts.  (Most likely chocolate ones, as I have been meaning to play with a chocolate donut recipe for a while)

When I was in high school I worked at a bakery on a farm.  And I don’t know if its just the farms around here, but every farm I have been to (that has a farm market) has cider donuts.  A big part of my job at the farm bakery was to fry the donuts.

I would go into work before school, fry the donuts, then go to school stinking like donuts.  No one else seemed to mind, but at the time I always thought I reeked. (Also, people made a lot of “time to make the donuts” jokes to me back in those days).

Since I was late to the National Donut Day party, I thought this mocha frappachino was a good stand in.  Not because it tastes like donuts (um if it did I might never stop drinking it and talking about it) but because this is an awesome donut accompaniment, and another high school throwback for me.  I spent a lot of time hanging out at Starbucks in high school.

It’s a weirdly high school throwback kind of week for me. I randomly had a song I used to love in high school stuck in my head, so I started listening to the album again.  It has been really amazing, I still love it.  Then, last night while I was editing some photos, I threw the song into Pandora to see if I could discover some new music that is similar, and Pandora literally made an Alissa high school mix.  It was crazy.  And a totally fun throwback.  Somehow all happening on a Thursday.  Weird!

So perhaps to celebrate donut day you can make this here frap, and perhaps these coconut donuts.  And listen to some music you loved in high school for me. :)

Health highlight of bananas:  Bananas are known for being a good source of potassium.  Potassium is an important nutrient because it helps lower blood pressure, and is used in the process of muscle contraction and nerve communication.  It is also helpful in the balance of pH in the body, and so also can help prevent the loss of calcium.  Bananas are a good source of soluble fiber which helps to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and can be helpful in the regulation of blood sugar.  Bananas have also been shown, because of the synergy of a few nutrients, to be very helpful in stomach upset.

Vegan Mocha Frappuccino

Serves: 1-2
 
Miraculously creamy and sweet, despite there being no milk/cream or sugar added!!
Ingredients
  • 1 frozen Banana
  • 1 cup Ice
  • 1 cup Coffee (decaf if you wish)
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa Powder
Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients to the blender
  2. Blend until smooth
  3. Add additional ice if you need to cool or thicken
